The Site may experience temporary interruptions due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 Ownership

All content on the Site, including but not limited to text, articles, analysis, commentary, data compilations, statistical tables, charts, graphics, maps, logos, page layouts, software, code, and the selection, coordination, and arrangement of content, is the property of the Vanderbilt Portfolio or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, trade dress, and other intellectual property laws of Switzerland, the European Union, the United States, and applicable international treaties. The Angola 2050 name, logo, and all related names, logos, product and service names, designs, and slogans are trademarks of the Vanderbilt Portfolio. You may not use these marks without our prior written permission.

The compilation of data on the Site — including the selection of sources, the structuring of data tables, the arrangement of comparative analyses, and the editorial commentary accompanying raw data — constitutes an original work of authorship protected by copyright. While individual data points sourced from public institutions are not proprietary, our compilation, analysis, and presentation of that data is protected intellectual property.

4.2 Limited License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and view the Site content for your personal, non-commercial use. This license is conditioned upon your compliance with these Terms and does not include the right to:

  • Use any data mining, robots, or similar data gathering or extraction methods
  • Download, reproduce, or store any content other than page caching as part of standard browser behavior
  • Use Site content for commercial purposes, including but not limited to resale, syndication, inclusion in commercial databases, or use in the creation of commercial products or services, without a written license agreement
  • Create derivative works based on Site content, including translations, adaptations, annotations, or compilations that incorporate substantial portions of Site content

This license is automatically revoked if you violate any provision of these Terms. Upon termination of this license, you must destroy any downloaded or printed materials obtained from the Site.

4.3 Data and Statistics

Statistical data, figures, and projections published on the Site are compiled from publicly available sources as described in our methodology. Source attribution is provided for all data points. While we compile and present this data with original analysis and commentary, the underlying raw data may be subject to the terms and conditions of the originating institutions (World Bank, IMF, AfDB, UNCTAD, ANPG, AIPEX, etc.). Our original analysis, commentary, editorial selection, data compilation methodology, and presentation format are proprietary and protected by copyright.

Users are responsible for complying with the terms of use of original data sources if they choose to independently access and use the raw data referenced on the Site. Angola 2050 does not grant any license to third-party data beyond what is presented on the Site.

4.4 Fair Use

Brief quotations of Site content for purposes of criticism, commentary, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research may be permissible under applicable fair use or fair dealing provisions of copyright law. Any such use must include proper attribution to Angola 2050 (including the author name where provided), a link to the original content on angola2050.com, and must not imply endorsement by Angola 2050 or the Vanderbilt Portfolio. Fair use does not extend to the systematic reproduction of data tables, the wholesale copying of analytical sections, or the creation of competing products that rely primarily on Angola 2050 content.

4.5 User Submissions

If you submit content to us — including but not limited to data corrections, feedback, suggestions, ideas, comments, or other materials — you grant the Vanderbilt Portfolio a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, fully sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content in any media or distribution method now known or later developed. You represent and warrant that you own or control all rights in and to any content you submit and that such content does not violate the rights of any third party.

5. User Accounts and Subscriptions

5.1 Registration

Certain features of the Site, including newsletter subscriptions, report downloads, and premium access, may require you to provide registration information. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during the registration process and to update such information as necessary to keep it accurate, current, and complete. Providing false or misleading registration information constitutes a violation of these Terms and may result in immediate termination of your account and access.

5.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any account credentials, including usernames and passwords, and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at info@angola2050.com of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security. We will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your account credentials. You may not share, transfer, or assign your account credentials to any other person or entity without our prior written consent.

5.3 Subscription Terms

Premium subscriptions are subject to additional terms provided at the time of subscription, including payment terms, renewal provisions, cancellation procedures, and any applicable refund policy. In the event of a conflict between these general Terms and the specific terms of a premium subscription agreement, the subscription agreement shall govern with respect to the premium services. Subscription fees are non-refundable except as expressly stated in the applicable subscription agreement or as required by law. We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with reasonable notice to existing subscribers, with such changes taking effect at the beginning of the next billing cycle following the notice period.

5.4 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Site at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to, violation of these Terms, fraudulent or illegal activity, non-payment of subscription fees, or conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be harmful to other users, us, or third parties. Upon termination, your right to access and use the Site ceases immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to intellectual property provisions, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification obligations, and governing law provisions.

6. Disclaimers

6.1 No Investment Advice

THE CONTENT ON THE SITE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. NOTHING ON THE SITE CONSTITUTES INVESTMENT ADVICE, FINANCIAL ADVICE, TRADING ADVICE, TAX ADVICE, LEGAL ADVICE, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. THE SITE DOES NOT RECOMMEND ANY SPECIFIC INVESTMENT, TRANSACTION, SECURITY, STRATEGY, OR COURSE OF ACTION. YOU SHOULD NOT MAKE ANY INVESTMENT, FINANCIAL, OR BUSINESS DECISIONS BASED SOLELY ON INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE SITE. ALWAYS CONSULT QUALIFIED FINANCIAL, LEGAL, TAX, OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS BEFORE MAKING INVESTMENT OR BUSINESS DECISIONS.

Angola 2050 publishes analysis, data, and commentary about Angola’s economy and investment landscape. This content is intended to inform and educate. It is not a solicitation, recommendation, or endorsement of any investment in Angola or any Angolan entity, security, or financial instrument. The fact that a particular sector, project, or investment vehicle is discussed on the Site does not imply that it is suitable for any particular investor or that we recommend investment in it.

6.2 No Warranty

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, FEATURES, FUNCTIONALITY, DATA, AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, TIMELY, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED OR THAT THE SITE OR THE SERVERS THAT MAKE IT AVAILABLE ARE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

6.3 Data Accuracy

While we make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of data published on the Site in accordance with our methodology, we do not guarantee that all information is complete, accurate, current, or reliable. Data from third-party sources is presented as reported by those sources and may be subject to revision, correction, restatement, or withdrawal by the originating institution at any time. Forward-looking projections and estimates published on the Site are inherently uncertain and may not be realized. Historical data may be revised as source institutions update their figures.

Angola presents particular challenges for data accuracy, including delays in official statistical publication, discrepancies between domestic and international institution estimates, limited sub-national data, and a large informal economy that is not fully captured in official statistics. Our methodology page describes these limitations in detail. Users of the Site should independently verify any data point before relying on it for commercial, investment, or policy decisions.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE VANDERBILT PORTFOLIO, ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, CONTRACTORS, LICENSORS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, SUBCONTRACTORS, AND SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF REVENUE, LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF USE, LOSS OF GOODWILL, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO:

  • YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE) THE SITE OR ANY CONTENT ON THE SITE
  • ANY CONTENT, DATA, ANALYSIS, OR INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM THE SITE, WHETHER OR NOT BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY
  • UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS, DATA, OR CONTENT
  • ANY ERRORS, INACCURACIES, OMISSIONS, OR OUTDATED INFORMATION IN SITE CONTENT
  • INVESTMENT, FINANCIAL, BUSINESS, OR OTHER DECISIONS MADE BASED ON SITE CONTENT
  • THE CONDUCT OF ANY THIRD PARTY IN CONNECTION WITH THE SITE
  • ANY INTERRUPTION, SUSPENSION, OR TERMINATION OF THE SITE OR ANY PART THEREOF

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SITE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE ACTUALLY PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED SWISS FRANCS (CHF 100).

THE LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY SET FORTH IN THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW IN THE APPLICABLE JURISDICTION. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. IN SUCH JURISDICTIONS, OUR LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Vanderbilt Portfolio and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors, licensors, service providers, subcontractors, and suppliers from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, and fees (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and legal costs) arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your access to or use of the Site or any content obtained from the Site
  • Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law or regulation
  • Your violation of any rights of a third party, including intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or publicity rights
  • Any content you submit to or through the Site, including data corrections, feedback, or other submissions
  • Your use of Site content in a manner not authorized by these Terms
  • Any investment, financial, or business decisions you make based on Site content

This indemnification obligation shall survive the termination of these Terms and your use of the Site.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including government portals, multilateral institution databases, news sources, and other external resources. These links are provided for reference, convenience, and source verification only. We do not endorse, control, or assume responsibility for the content, privacy policies, data practices, or availability of any third-party websites. Your interactions with third-party websites are solely between you and the third party, and you access them at your own risk.

The Site may also integrate or reference third-party services, including Google Analytics, Google AdSense, email delivery services, and payment processors. Your use of these services is governed by the respective third party’s terms of service and privacy policy. We are not responsible for the practices of these third-party service providers, although we select providers that maintain appropriate security and privacy standards.

The inclusion of any link on the Site does not imply our endorsement of the linked site, its content, or its operators. We do not guarantee that external links will remain functional and are not responsible for changes to the content or availability of linked sites.

10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the substantive laws of Switzerland, without regard to its conflict of law principles or the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, or the breach, termination, or invalidity thereof, shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Zurich, Switzerland.

This choice of law and jurisdiction does not deprive consumers in the European Union or the European Economic Area of the protection afforded by mandatory provisions of the law of their country of habitual residence, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 (Rome I). EU consumers may also bring proceedings in the courts of their country of habitual residence.

For consumers resident in the United Kingdom, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under applicable UK law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

11. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, invalid, or illegal by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving the original intent, or if modification is not possible, severed from these Terms. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision of these Terms, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

12. Waiver

The failure of the Vanderbilt Portfolio to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Any waiver of any provision of these Terms shall be effective only if in writing and signed by the Vanderbilt Portfolio. No waiver shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such provision or any other provision, and our failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

13. Assignment

You may not assign, transfer, or delegate these Terms or any of your rights or obligations hereunder without our prior written consent. We may freely assign or transfer these Terms, including all rights and obligations, without restriction and without notice to you, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, corporate reorganization, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets. Subject to the foregoing, these Terms shall bind and inure to the benefit of the parties, their successors, and permitted assigns.

14. Force Majeure

We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms where such failure or delay results from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, pandemics, epidemics, acts of government, war, terrorism, civil unrest, labor disputes, power failures, internet or telecommunications failures, cyberattacks, denial-of-service attacks, or failures of third-party service providers.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, and any additional terms applicable to specific services (such as premium subscription agreements), constitute the entire agreement between you and the Vanderbilt Portfolio regarding your use of the Site. These Terms supersede all prior agreements, understandings, representations, and communications, whether written or oral, relating to the subject matter hereof. No statement, representation, warranty, or covenant not expressly set forth in these Terms shall affect or be used to interpret, change, or restrict the express terms and provisions of these Terms.

16. Notices

All notices from us to you under these Terms may be delivered by email to the address you provided during registration or by posting a notice on the Site. Notices delivered by email are deemed received when the email is sent. Notices posted on the Site are deemed received upon posting. You represent and warrant that you are not located in, organized under the laws of, or a resident of any country or territory subject to comprehensive economic sanctions, and that you are not designated on any restricted party list. You agree not to access or use the Site in violation of any applicable export control or sanctions laws.
